Obituary

James Lafayette Swart (J.L. or Jim) was born March 28, 1929 at his parent's home in Loudoun County, Virginia to the late Cora Edna Daymude Swart and Benjamin F. Swart.  J.L. spent his young life farming and playing baseball.  During the 1950s and 60s, he was instrumental in the formation of the Arcola-Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department and was one of their most devoted volunteers.  He worked for 49 years for the Fairmac Corporation, where he was the well-known and beloved plumber of Fairlington in Arlington County.  J.L. enjoyed NASCAR racing, bluegrass/country music and dancing, baseball including the Washington Senators, Washington Nationals, and Baltimore Orioles, and spending time with his family.  J.L. was pre-deceased by his sister Edna Swart England, and brothers, Franklin, Calvin, Oliver Lee, and Kenneth Alan Swart.  Mr. Swart leaves behind his four daughters Lynne Drummond (Kevin), Sherry Forrester, Lori Page (Michael), Lesley Aschenbach (Mark), and his longtime sweetheart, Betty Davis; as well as 24 grandchildren and great grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Washington Nationals Dream Foundation—Nationals Park, 1500 South Capital Street, SE, Washington, DC 20003/Tax ID Number: 34-2034830 or Operation Christmas Child, a Samatarian's Purse project--PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm at the Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd NE, Leesburg, Virginia 20176.  Funeral services are scheduled at Colonial Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 starting at 11:00 am with burial to follow in Union Cemetery.
