IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jason
Hetterly
June 1, 1983 – December 25, 2024
Dearly loved by his family and those who knew him, Jason Michael Hetterly of Ashburn, Virginia left this life too soon on Christmas Day 2024. We cherish the gift of having spent time together on Christmas Eve and had no indication his life would end suddenly the next morning. Having been covered in prayer since before he was born, entrusted to God through the years, and lifted up in fervent prayer during his final hour of life, we hold on to the goodness and mercy of Jesus to care for His own.
Jason leaves behind his mother Debbie Hetterly of Ashburn, VA; father John Hetterly (Jackie) of Frederick, MD; brother Brandon Hetterly (Amanda) of Bunker Hill, WV; niece Mackenzie Cooper of Round Hill, VA; and grandparents Norman and Hiroko Hunt of Herndon, VA. He also leaves behind his favorite aunt, Dana Jacobs of Alexandria, VA, his uncles Dennis Jacobs of Reston, VA and Randy Jacobs of Fairfax, VA, along with numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his fiancée, Lennaya Woodson in 2021.
Jason grew up in Herndon, VA and from a young age loved to sing. He and Brandon often put on home concerts as they sang into hairbrushes and the handle of an upright vacuum cleaner. Attending concerts at church and seeing Christian artists at local venues were highlights growing up. That passion for music continued into adulthood, now with a real microphone on a karaoke stage. Jason had a strong and beautiful voice, and it was a joy to hear him sing. His many karaoke friends miss him deeply.
Jason also loved to cook, coming up with new recipes and tweaking standard dishes to share with family, friends, and neighbors. He looked forward to family and community potlucks, and took great delight in planning, preparing, and presenting his most recent creation.
He was a sweet and caring soul, growing more considerate and respectful of others as the years went by. He demonstrated genuine acceptance and understanding toward others, displaying extra special care and kindness to the vulnerable people in his life. He was quick to forgive. He was smart. And he was oh so funny.
To celebrate Jason's life and say a final goodbye, we would be honored to have you join us at the Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, January 16 from 1:00-4:00. We will remember Jason with a visitation, message of hope, time of fellowship, and some light refreshments.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please consider donating to the work of Samaritan's Purse. https://www.samaritanspurse.org
During this time, we hope you will ponder these scriptures regarding Jesus and the mercy and forgiveness He offers:
Jason accepted and understood my (Debbie's) idiosyncrasies in a way others didn't. Living nearby, I got to spend time with him doing mundane things like trips to the grocery store or playing a game of Skip-Bo at Panera. I loved talking with him about issues and stories in the news. I could count on Jason's willingness to help me; learning and putting to use new construction skills to work on my basement project, pulling weeds and spreading mulch in my yard, and insisting on carrying in my groceries. My precious, Jason. I miss you so much, and I can't fully grasp that you are gone.
