IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jayson Thomas
Herd
August 14, 2003 – May 18, 2024
Jayson, 20, of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 18, 2024. Born August 14, 2003 to Raven Bowden (Herd) and John Keye Herd III, Jayson was an adorable natural-born athlete with a contagious smile and a hilarious sense of humor. Jayson will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire community.
Jayson's passion for sports was evident on and off the field. His infectious enthusiasm and positive attitude inspired his teammates and brought joy to everyone who knew him. Whether he was playing football, basketball, or baseball, Jayson always gave it his all. Jayson began playing sports at Ben Hill Recreation Center in Atlanta, Georgia. After moving to Virginia at 9 years of age, he played baseball for Fairfax Little League and football for Chantilly Youth Sports. After a chance meeting in Walmart, Jayson began his football journey with the Dulles Patriots and with AYFL. During the basketball season, he played for CLBL, Loudoun Elite, and FSBL.
Jayson's charm extended off of the field and into the classroom. A proud student of LCPS, Jayson attended Stone Hill Middle School, Farmwell Middle School, Stone Bridge High School, and Independence High School. Regardless of which class he was in, Jayson knew everyone and made them feel special. From administrative staff to students, you could feel the warmth behind the smile he gave you and the warmth of the 'Wassup' he'd send your way.
Beyond athletics, Jayson possessed a gift for making friends wherever he went. Jayson was baptized at a young age and knew the Lord. He participated in weekly Bible Studies held by his friends, Elisheva and Levi. His love of God and faith was evident along with his sense of humor. His comical sense of humor could brighten any room, and his genuine kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a loving son and brother, and his devotion to his mother, Raven, and sister, Taryn, was unwavering.
Jayson is survived by his mother, Raven Bowden, father, John Keye Herd III, brother, John Keye Herd IV, sister, Taryn Nunnally, grandmother, Mae Bowden, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Jayson's absence leaves a void in the hearts of his loved ones and the community. His legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication will continue to inspire those who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Fellowship of Christian Athletes Loudoun County (loudounfca.org) and The Tin Cup Fund (thetincupfund.org) in Jayson's memory.
