On October 8, 2009 the clouds passed over earth for a little while. After years of bringing sunshine to the hearts of many, Jean Marie Conley passed away at 86 years young.
One of three children, Jean was born in Warren, Pennsylvania on March 11, 1923 to Arch W. and Sadie Lorena (Merrill) Miller. She graduated from Alleghany College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Jean went on to marry Paul Conley. They made their home in Fairfax, Virginia. Together, they raised five children. Although Jean worked for the Fairfax County Public Library as a librarian, she was a typical mom. A self-sacrificing person, she always tried to put the needs of her husband and children before her own. Jean was careful to be a good role model; even in her appearance; as she always made it a point to look her best.
A very active lady, she (when not shopping) could be found on the golf course. She traveled the world over, always taking in the sights and sounds of all things new. She was never one to take life for granted; appreciating every moment. Jean was a remarkably positive, outgoing person, who drew friends easily; which resulted in her being blessed with many.
Jean was a person who deeply cared for her family and friends. Her kids and grandkids were her pride and joy. She loved using her skills to please her family and friends. One would often be the recipient of a gift she had personally sewn for them. She loved to cook. And thoroughly enjoyed a good Redskins game. But in the quiet times, she read and worked on her cross stitch patterns.
In their later years she and her husband, Paul, made the decision to leave the home of sixty years and move to Ashby Ponds. Although it was a hard decision and slightly painful to make the move; once there, she never looked back. She loved living at Ashby Ponds. With age, time took its toll. But never once did she complain.
The family will hold a private service. They will announce the date and time of a memorial service which will be held at a later date. All donations can be made to the Allegheny College, 520 N Main St., Meadville, PA 16335.
