Jean Marie
(Grimes) Dura
December 9, 1930 – December 29, 2022
On Thursday, December 29, 2022, Jean Marie (Grimes) Dura, age 92, entered eternal rest in the loving care of our lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Born in Leesburg, Virginia, on December 9, 1930 to William Randolph and Lucy (Drott) Grimes, Jean was the youngest of their four children.
While spending her early childhood in Leesburg, she traveled to New York for her teen years where she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Frederick and Janette Drott. In 1952, Jean married Michael Dura of Frackville, PA. They lived in New York, Pennsylvania, and finally settled in New Jersey where they raised their three children.
Jean worked as an administrative assistant for several school districts in northern New Jersey. Upon retirement in 1992, she returned to her hometown of Leesburg, VA where she continued her love of reading and gardening. She also spent the next decade doing volunteer work. Survivors include her three children and spouses: Michael and Susanne Dura of Albany, NY; Nancy Horvat of Allentown, PA; Paul William and Peggy Dura of Wood River Junction, RI. Additionally, Jean is survived by her half-sister Kathryn Carroll and husband, Robert, of Bumpass, VA; cousin Jacquelyn (Hutchison) Herndon of Athens, GA; sister-in-law Nada Grimes of Cleveland, OH; six grandchildren: Deanna LeBlanc, Paul Michael Dura, Sarah Morgan, Ashley Reynolds, James Christopher Dura, and Christian Dura; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Dear family members pre-deceasing Jean include husband, Michael; parents William R. Grimes and Lucy Kitts; step-father Eugene Kitts; siblings Grey Grimes, Betty Lou Zinz, and William (Billy) Grimes.
Final preparations for interment were provided by Trexler Funeral Home, Allentown, PA, and Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, VA. Interment will be private at Union Cemetery in Leesburg, VA.
The family would like to extend their gratitude for the loving care provided Jean by the Lehigh Valley Hospice nurses at Lehigh Valley Hospital/Cedar Crest, Allentown, PA in her final days.
