OBITUARY
Jean R. Matthews
April 25, 1925 – April 25, 2015
Jean R. Matthews, age 90, died Saturday, April 25, 2015 at INOVA Loudoun Hospital, in Leesburg, VA.
Jean was born on April 25, 1925 in Elmira, NY to Douglas and Ruth (Preston) Nixon. She graduated from Southside High School at age 16 and worked for Remington-Rand Company. She was a slow-pitch softball player and was inducted in the Elmira Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of her athletic accomplishments.
Jean earned her Associates Degree in Accounting and continued in this career, later employed by Woodward and Lothrop Departments Stores as Manager of the Cash Office in Washington, D.C and later transferring to the 7 Corners location where she remained until her retirement in 1987. Early years of retirement were spent with husband Everett at Lake Marion, SC where they spent their time fishing on their pontoon boat, playing pool and bowling.
Jean loved animals, enjoyed watching sports, playing bingo, reading, celebrating her grandchildren's accomplishments and hearing about her family's and friends successes.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Ruth Nixon, her husband Everett, and her sister Mary Lou Liddick.
She is survived by her brother, James Nixon of Elmira NY, daughter, Kellie Goossens, ( Laurent) of Purcellville VA , 2 grandchildren, CJ and Amanda Barr and numerous nieces, nephews , grand-nieces and nephews.
The family is having a private memorial service at a later date.

Jean's family wishes to thank the staff at Heritage Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care she received during the last two years of her life.
