IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jeffrey D.
Marsh
August 7, 1970 – May 22, 2020
Jeff was born in Denver, Colorado on August 7, 1970 to John Raymond Marsh and Linda Carol Armijo Marsh. He grew up in Denver and attended All Saints Catholic School for his early elementary education. He always told the story of how he was the only blonde, white boy in school among his hispanic friends.
When Jeff was 7 years old, his mother passed away. Jeff always honored his mother by sharing his memories of her and how much he loved her.
Around the age of 9, the family moved to Lakewood, Colorado where Jeff attended Green Gables Elementary, Denison Jr. High and graduated from Bear Creek High School in 1989. Jeff attended Warren Tech his senior year of high school studying car mechanics which was his passion.
Jeff started working at the local Cub Foods grocery store during his junior year of high school. This allowed him to save his money and buy a VW bug painted "Pit Pink" with maroon flames. He loved that bug! He pursued his passion by working on it all the time, and raced it at Bandimere speedway.
In the spring of 1989, during a staff meeting at Cub Foods, Jeff met his future wife, Mary, for the first time. Jeff was sitting at the end of the table eating, of course, M&M's. A girl sitting at the other end of the table asked for one. In prime Jeff Marsh style, he bounced an M&M across the table to this girl and it hit her in the eye! Mary remembers thinking, "what a dumb boy!!"
On July 11, 1989, Jeff asked Mary out on their first date. Jeff worked in the produce department, and Mary was a cashier. They saw "Batman". From that day forward, they were inseparable until he left for Bootcamp on August 14, 1989. Jeff attended basic training in San Diego Ca. until November of 1989. He was then stationed on board the USS Shenandoah in Norfolk, VA. Through letters and occasional phone calls the couple stayed in touch and their love grew. Whenever possible they would visit each other including spring break, Christmas and summers.
In March of 1991, Jeff attended Engineman "A" School in the Great Lakes. Mary visited in the spring and Jeff proposed. After graduation, he was stationed on board the USS Barnstable County in Norfolk, VA. In June, the "Barn" went on a 6 month cruise around the horn of Africa. He returned home January 8, 1992 and Jeff and Mary married on January 11, 1992. The wedding marked exactly 2 ½ years after their first date. Both were 21 years old and knew that their love would last a lifetime. Their marriage was truly blessed by God.
Mary moved to Norkfolk and waited as Jeff finished his 2 years of active duty on board the Barn and then was discharged from Active duty. Jeff entered the Active Reserves and they moved back to Colorado in late 1993. Jeff started a job as a mechanic at a local Ford Dealership. He continued his career at Ford until 1997, when he changed careers and started as an HVAC technician with Tolin Mechanical systems. In 1999, Jeff and Mary welcomed their daughter Julianna Sue. Jeff continued his education at the local Pipefitters union trade school and received his State Journeyman's license in HVAC in 2002. He also attended Red Rocks Community College and received an Associates Degree in Mechanics. In 2002, Jeff and Mary welcomed their second daughter, Caroline Elizabeth.
Jeff's career with Tolin Mechanical spanned 18 years. He advanced out of fieldwork and worked as a Service Manager. During all these years, Jeff was an Active Reservist in the Navy, stationed at Buckley Air Force Base with JICPAC. He crossrated to Intelligence Specialist in 1999 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor, HI. He reported one weekend a month to Buckley, and 2 weeks a year to Pearl Harbor for Active Duty. His passion and love for cars continued. He loved to work on his 1988 Cougar in his spare time and enjoyed racing it at Bandimere Speedway. Jeff always enjoyed working in the yard and doing jobs around the house that were on Mary's "honey do list". He was very detail oriented and such a perfectionist and did everything with precision.
In 2005, Mary and the girls accompanied Jeff to Hawaii for the first time. It was a goal for them to go to Hawaii as family as often as they could. Jeff loved the ocean, he loved to travel and he loved to share those experiences with his girls. In 2007, Jeff was deployed to Iraq to serve with the First Cavalry Division out of Fort Hood Texas at Camp Liberty in Bagdad, Iraq. In 2011, Jeff retired from the Navy with 22 years of service, just 3 months before they welcomed their third daughter, Joceyln Marie.
In the spring of 2013, Jeff was offered a promotion at Tolin and the opportunity to move to Northern Virginia. In July of 2013, the family of five moved to Stone Ridge, Virginia. Jeff stayed with Tolin until May of 2015. In June of 2015, he made a switch to The Tustin Group as the General Manager of the Northern Virginia branch. He spent the next 3 years building the business from the ground up. It was those 3 years at Tustin that Jeff truly felt he had finally reached his career goal! He had the ability to innately surround himself with good, honest, loyal and dependable people, who understood his high expectation of respect and hard work.
In March of 2019, Jeff was diagnosed with Glioblastoma brain cancer. Jeff never talked about having "cancer" or even used the word. Jeff was a fighter, a warrior and his mindset was to beat the awful diagnosis. Jeff went through all the standard treatment of care. He had a craniotomy in April of 2019, followed by 30 rounds of radiation, and chemotherapy. In the following months he was on 3 different chemotherapy treatments, but none of them were able to slow the growth. Jeff always stayed positive for the girls and Mary. He would say to Mary often, "Honey, it's going to be ok!"
On Friday May 22, 2020 after almost 14 months, Jeff went to be with Jesus. He was not in any pain and simply went peacefully to sleep. Mary believes that the thought of his life ending due to this terrible disease was just too painful for him to talk about. Jeff was Mary's rock, best friend, soul mate and their's was a marriage of love and respect. A marriage of unity, they were one!
Jeff was a loving, dedicated husband of 28 ½ years. He was a devoted, fun, full of life Dad to Julianna, age 21, Caroline, age 17 and Jocelyn, age 8. He is also survived by his Dad, Jon Marsh of Littleton, CO, his brother Mike Marsh of Denver, CO. and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Jeff will be missed by many, remembered by hundreds and never forgotten by anyone who knew him!
