Leesburg, Virginia

Born January 29, 1961

Place of Birth – Yonkers, NY

Parents: Anthony C. Popp (Deceased) and Ann Popp

Joan's greatest love was her family. She and Bob were married for 33+ years and shared 38 years together, even attending their high school prom.

Joan's pride lives with her children, Sean and Kyle. Both boys are on their way in this world with confidence thanks to the love and nurturing she provided. She rests knowing this and with the knowledge that Bob will continue to be with them through his last day.

Joan was also one of nine (9) children - #6 as she often reminded everyone. The Popp family is another of gods' gifts. Tom, Peggy, Maryann, Cathy, Robert, Eddie, Nancy and Raymond, each special in their own way, were all loved and adored by Joan. They all affectionately referred to her as "sista-sledge".

Friends and Family surrounded Joan with prayers and comfort – she affectionately called them her "War Angels". These individuals provided constant love and support during close to two years of treatments. Through good news, bad news, good times and bad they never left her side. Joan is at rest knowing these tireless individuals brought her peace amidst the turmoil.

In life Joan provided care and comfort to numerous individuals. She worked as a Physical Therapy Assistant at Bethel Nursing Home (Croton, NY), Ashby Ponds (Ashburn, VA) and many other facilities. Anyone that spent time with her knew that this was her calling. Her patients and co-workers adored her. Joan often stated that she was blessed having known all of them – when you love what you're doing it is no longer a job, it's a calling.

Joan was a guest writer for a community magazine, The Banks. She often wrote in the section titled "Meet Your Neighbors". She also wrote an article documenting her battle. The story, titled "I Am Healthy, I Just Have Cancer", is a heartfelt personal story about her diagnosis, treatments and outlook. In addition, Joan documented her fight with Ovarian Cancer through social media. Her Facebook posts were an open dialogue through which she hoped to help others become educated and aware of Ovarian Cancer.
