Col. John Crane Conlin, USMC (Ret)

Col. Conlin passed away Tuesday, March 6th as the result of a fall and infection. He will be forever missed by his wife, Anne, sons Chris (wife Ava), J.R. (wife Anne Marie), and his prized grandchildren Grace, Rose and May.
He was also blessed with a life-long friend and "the brother he never had", Andrew J. Kilcarr & wife Barbara; cousins Gloria and Jack Kinn; Carole & Frank Doyle; brothers-in-law John & Frank Regan (wife Eileen).
Col. Conlin was born in the Bronx, N.Y.
He served thirty years as a USMC Infantry Combat Officer, including three tours in Vietnam. Among his awards are the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
His service to the country included Command of the 31st Marine Amphibious Unit, Command Center Operations Chief of the National Emergency Airborne Command Post, and Executive Officer for the Mobile Riverine Force, Military Assistance Command Vietnam.
He was a proud member of the Military Order of St. Crispin's and The Military Order of the Carabao.
He received a B.S. From Manhattan College, his M.A. from Catholic University and was a Distinguished Graduate of the National War College. Upon retiring from the Marine Corps, Col. Conlin became Director of Business Development for TRW Systems Integration Group. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Fairfax Opportunities Unlimited (currently Client ServiceSource).
Viewing will be held Sun, Mar 11th from 6PM to 8PM at the Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, March 12th at 11 AM St. Theresa Catholic Church – 21371 St. Theresa Ln, Ashburn VA with reception to follow. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery on March 22, 2012, 3:00 PM Memorial contributions may be made to the Semper Fi Fund (SemperFiFund.org)
