Leesburg resident and artist, Jack Lancto, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Loudoun INOVA Hospital Center, Lansdowne after a long illness.
Jack was raised in Gabriels, New York later attending college at the State University of New York's New Paltz campus where he majored in painting and fine arts. This laid the foundation of a lifelong love of oil and water color painting. Jack continually refined his techniques, becoming known for his sky and landscapes. He idolized the works of Turner, Jack's greatest artistic influence. He was mesmerized by the sky and it's constantly changing tonal qualities. Jack often referred to it as "God's greatest piece of abstract art". He continued to learn, teach and create until his death. His art defined him.
In early life he had a career in Law Enforcement before moving to Virginia. Here he worked for Nick Greer's Antique Restoration until disability forced retirement. He dearly loved his work and the people he worked with.
Jack is survived by his wife Laura, their daughter Jessica Davidson, grandson Silas, his "Lady Doggie" and the "Terrorist Kitty". He is so missed and so loved. Survivors also include two daughters from his first marriage, Elizabeth and Rebeka Lancto of New York; his cherished step-father Mark Tucker and sister Deborah Lancto, both of Gabriels, New York. Jack also leaves behind a host of close friends whom he held in high regard.
A memorial service to honor his life will take place on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, Leesburg. In lieu of flowers his family requests that donations in his name be made to "Stephen's Hope For Tomorrow" (a fund he helped to establish), P.O. Box 2356, Leesburg, VA 20177 or "The Friends of Homeless Animals" 39710 Good Puppy Lane, Aldie, VA 20105. He loved his animals as much as his art.
