IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John William
Levan
July 19, 1961 – June 26, 2024
John William LeVan, age 62, of Leesburg, VA passed away surrounded by his family on June 26, 2024 at his home in Leesburg, VA after a courageous fight with brain cancer.
John was born in Elyria, OH to Anne and Arthur LeVan. He spent his childhood in Media PA where he graduated from Penncrest High School. Afterwards, John attended Hartwick College and Columbia University in a combined program earning a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He began working at IBM in Owego NY in May 1984. There he met the love of his life Annette at an orientation session. They were married for over 36 years. John left IBM to complete an MBA at Cornell University. He then worked for Emerson Electric starting in Ithaca, NY, advancing to a Vice President through positions in Chicago, IL, Menominee, MI and Louisville, KY. In 1999, he was recruited to American Woodmark and the family moved to Leesburg, VA where they resided for the past twenty-five years. John became entrepreneurial focused as a General Manager for Belfor, a Grease Monkey franchise owner, and his most passionate last 10 years as owner of The Property Doctor/Comfenergy. John impacted the lives of hundreds of employees over his career and was a natural mentor and servant leader, deeply formed by his upbringing.
John was preceded in death by his parents Anne and Arthur LeVan and is survived by his wife Annette of Leesburg, VA, son John Jr of Richmond VA, daughter Elise Adams (Zach Adams) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, sister Betsy Aderholdt (Ron Sears) of Buckley MI , and mother-in-law Theresa Quaranta of Vestal, NY along with several nieces and nephews.
John recognized the beauty in his life: his family, his relationships, nature, and all creatures. He was grateful for all these gifts through the end of his life. He was a remarkable role model as a husband, father, leader, boss and friend. John had a sense of adventure, completing a solo cross country bicycle trip after college, sailboat racing, starting and managing his own companies and fostering not one, but two boykin spaniel dogs. He enjoyed boating, hiking, hunting, fishing, dogs, coaching girls' soccer and home projects. John had a great sense of humor and a gift for storytelling, and he will no doubt be remembered by all those whose lives he touched.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Saint John the Apostle Church in Leesburg, VA on Friday August 2 at 10am followed by a reception in the parish center.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that remembrances be made in John's name in the form of contributions to these organizations:
