Obituary

John Thomas (Jack) O'Connor, beloved husband of Eileen Martin O'Connor, passed away peacefully at home on September 9, 2024, just 11 days shy of their 55th wedding anniversary.

Born and raised in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx, NY, Jack graduated from St. Helena High School and later earned a degree in Economics from Iona College. After college, he served in the Army National Guard for over six years. Jack worked at New York Life for 32 years, retiring as Vice President in Group Accounting.

A devoted father, Jack was deeply involved in his daughters' lives while living in Ramsey, NJ, dedicating countless hours to coaching local youth sports teams. Well-respected and loved by many, Jack faced a significant challenge that left him paralyzed on his left side. With determination, he relearned to walk with the aid of a quad cane—a testament to his resilience.

I just donated to Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Do the same!
Jack had a love for reading, especially history and mystery novels, and was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants. Above all, he cherished following his grandchildren's sports teams and celebrating their accomplishments.

In addition to his wife, Eileen, Jack is survived by his three daughters: Susan Winklosky and her husband, Gary; Diane Rymer and her husband, Keith; and Denise Graeber and her husband, Derek. He was the proud "Pop" to seven grandchildren: Katie, Nicole, Josh, Declan, Bridget, Drew, and Devlyn.

Jack is also survived by his brother, Denis; his sister, Elizabeth, and her husband, Ed; and his brother, Pete, and his wife, Ilona, as well as eight cherished nieces and nephews.

A Mass will be held at St. Theresa Church, Ashburn, on September 19, 2024, at 1 PM. Interment will take place at a later date at the Columbarium in Arlington National Cemetery.

The family has chosen for any donations to be given to  Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department 501(c)(3) non-profit organization | Help Ashburn's First Responders Answer the Call! (networkforgood.org)
