John Darrel Perkins, age 65, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 5, 2010 after battling cancer since July. John was born and raised in southern California with his sister Karen by Cecil and Kay Perkins and considered himself to be a California boy even though he has lived on the east coast since the early 70's. He married Lynne Sutton in 1977 and moved to Leesburg from Richmond in 1987 where he began working for Rehau, Inc. as the Credit manager. He is survived by his wife Lynne, 3 children (Sundee, Jonathan, and David) and 3 grandchildren (Nathan, Emily & Julianna).
John is known to many as Mr. Soccer for his involvement in the LYSA and NCSL. He refereed soccer for many years and in 2005 became State Emeritus. He was a member of the R&D Committee for NCSL and coached numerous teams. He was also an active member of Leesburg Community Church where he enjoyed serving meals on Wed evenings and teaching classes. John was an adventurous cook who especially loved wine and dessert. You never wanted to play against him in Trivial Pursuit, he had a unique sense of humor, and there was always room at his table for one more.
John was a well-respected member of the community, a cherished friend, a loving father and devoted husband. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration service at Leesburg Community Church is planned on Saturday, December 4th at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Perkins Trust and mailed to McClure & Bruggemann, PC, 602 South King Street, Suite 200, Leesburg, VA 20175.
