Obituary

John T. Shipe, Sr. ("Jack"), entered into God's eternal rest and salvation on February 16, 2025.

He is survived by two children: his daughter, Betsy Shipe of Ashburn, VA and his son, John T. Shipe II and wife, Barbara of Thornburg, VA; his grandchildren whom he cherished: grandson, Ryan M. Nestor and wife, Selene; grandson, Connor; and granddaughter, Lindsey (Nathan) Epperson; step-grandchildren, Lisa Worth and Lesley Stanley; and great-grandchildren, April and Levi. He is also survived by his sister, Audrey Campbell.

He is predeceased by his parents, Wilbert G. and Emma F. Shipe; two brothers, Wilbert and Kenneth; and sister, Nancy Shipe.

Jack served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and saw combat while serving in the Korean War where he received a Purple Heart and a Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, among other awards.

He enjoyed a 37-year career in aviation beginning with Capitol Airlines who later merged with United Airlines.

Jack was a dedicated father and grandfather, friend to many, and was fondly referred to as "The Mayor". He was well known for his quick humor and solid advice. He loved gardening an was an avid reader.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 23 at 4:00 PM at Cornerstone Chapel. Jack will be laid to rest with military honors at Culpeper National Cemetery the following day.
