John Francis Grecco, Sr.

John was born September 18, 1939 in Jersey City, New Jersey to parents Nicholas J. Grecco and Giovanna (Jennie) LoMacchio. He was husband to Julia Grecco (nee Marshall) who recently passed December 20, 2015. John graduated from Saint Peter's College and served his country in the US Army for 20 years, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was awarded a bronze star after completing two tours in Vietnam. After his twenty years in the Army, John went back to Catholic University and completed his master's degree in social work. He then dedicated his life to helping those suffering from alcohol and drug addiction.

He was an active member of St Mary's Orthodox Church in Falls Church, Virginia for more than 18 years and considered all there an extension of his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Cassie Eckenrode, his son John F. Grecco, Jr., grandchildren, Nicole, Frankie, Jessica, Allison, Nick, Charlie and his sister, Frances Russo.

John F. Grecco, Sr. can best be described in this way: love for family; faith in God; duty to country and others in need. And, let us not forget his passion for opera, stamps, coins, history, movies, books and anything worth collecting.

Viewing is Sunday, February 28 from 4pm to 8pm at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg,VA. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Orthodox Church, 7223 Roosevelt Ave., Falls Church, VA on February 29 at 11am. May his memory be eternal!
