John W. (Billy) Fiske, Retired, 83, of New Market, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at his residence, following a brief illness. Billy was born September 22 1931, in Leesburg, VA, the third son of Charles William (Bill) Fiske and Elizabeth May (Cooper) Fiske. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and one brother Charles M. Fiske.
After graduating from Leesburg High School in 1948, he joined the Navy where he was assigned to the Medic Corp. After leaving the Navy in 1952, he went to work for VEPCO in the engineering department. While employed at VEPCO he finished his engineering degree from the International Correspondence Schools. Later he accepted an engineering position with Tri-County Electric Cooperative where he was instrumental in providing quality and reliable electrical service to rural communities of Loudoun County. In 1983 with the merger of Tri-County and Prince William electric Cooperatives into NOVEC he became the System Engineering Manager. During his tenure with NOVEC he oversaw the design and construction of a number of improvements to the electrical transmission and distribution systems in northern Virginia area. After he retired from NOVEC in 1995 much of his time was dedicated to family and service with the fire and rescue departments.
Billy was a kind, loving, giving person loved by the many who knew him. He enjoyed nothing more than having his family and friends around him and he thanked God for the blessing of family every day. As a life member, he loved his volunteer work with the Leesburg Fire Department.. He was charter member and life member of Loudoun Rescue Squad and served these agencies faithfully for over 55 years. He spent many years serving as the Chief of the Fire Department. In 2009 a new fire truck was dedicated to Billy and his wife Rose as a thank you for the many years they served.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, Rose, he is survived by one son, John (JW) W Fiske, Jr., and wife Jean of Broadway, VA, and one daughter Teresa (Terrie) Pressman, and husband, Adam of Leesburg, VA, and two grandsons, John W Fiske III and wife Rebecca of Waynesboro,VA, Timothy Paul Fiske, Sr. and wife, Kelly of Harrisonburg, VA and two granddaughters, Elisabeth (Beth) Turner, and husband Jeremy, of Broadway, VA, Taylor Carroll of Morgantown, WV and eight great grand children, Timothy, Sarah, Parker, Ruth, Alex, Andy, Caleb, and Avalynne; two brothers, Robert W. Fiske, and wife, Joyce, of Prescott, AZ; Richard H. Fiske, and wife Betty, of Leesburg; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday June 8, 2015 at 11 AM at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, Va. with grandsons, John and Paul Fiske and Reverend Michael Dettmer officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Union Cemetery in Leesburg. The family will receive friends on Sunday June 7, 2015 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
