John Wright, 84, son of William and Lily Bradbury Wright, passed away while residing at Heritage Hall in Leesburg, Virginia. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Margaret (Hardwick) of more than 55 years.
John was born in Lancashire, England and spent his early years in Essex, England. During WWII his family vacated their home on the seaside in Jaywick, England for British troops to utilize. Subsequently, John served in the British army himself. After immigrating to the U.S. in 1967, he worked as a mechanical engineering manager in Baltimore, Maryland and retired in 1991.
John was known for taking long walks while he resided in Columbia, Maryland and often befriended the children and families he met on his way.
Prior to residing in Leesburg for a year, he resided at Charlestown in Catonsville, Maryland with his wife.
John enjoyed a few pints at his local pub in Ellicott City and over the years he taught many young men and women how to play pool. He was loved for his sense of humor, friendship and kindness to children.
He is survived by his daughter Susan May, son and daughter-in-law, Susan and Bill Wright, his grandchild Michael May, his sister Pat Jones, and nephews Christopher and Andrew Jones and their families. He is also remembered fondly by his longtime friend of more than 40 years, Alan Fischbach.
His desire was to be cremated and a memorial gathering will be held at a future date in England where his ashes will be scattered.
