Joseph John Arthur Casey
December 7, 1968 – May 7, 2019
A special remembrance of Joe's life will be held. Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd., NE, Leesburg, VA 20176 where a service will begin at 1:30 pm.
Early Life : Joe was born in Scottsdale Arizona on December 7, 1968 to Parents, James Casey and Valerie Lai Hin Goo (both are in heaven). The family moved to Honolulu, Hawaii (where his mother Valerie was from) shortly after Joe was born and Joe grew up on the beautiful island of Oahu with his older brother, Jim, and his younger brother, Jack. Though with a disadvantaged upbringing, Joe was diligent, smart and ranked at top of his class upon graduating from St. Louis Catholic High School. His goal was to follow big-brother, Jim to the best Catholic University- the University of Notre Dame and that he did. Joe graduated at the top of his class at Notre-Dame, with a BBA in Accounting, even earning his CPA certification at 1 st take before graduation. This was a feat few others of his time could have done. He was also offered a starting position at the top public accounting firm right out of college, Price Waterhouse. These former accomplishments are a glimpse of who Joe was- brilliant, self-driven, determined and a fighter .
Career: Joe went on to be a leading star at Price Waterhouse as a financial auditor. He met his ex-wife, Thuy Casey at PW in 1993, she was an IT Auditor at the firm and she opened his eyes to the world of computers and technology. With always a thirst for knowledge, he went on to teach himself all there is to know about the world of computers and technology. That was also Joe, an avid reader, self-reliant, self-taught and he could learn anything he puts his mind and interest into. As he found himself more passionate about technology, he migrated towards a career in Technology Infrastructure Sales. He worked in top technology companies such as Ernst & Young, Cable & Wireless, Digital Island, Savvis Communications, CenturyLink and the latest, Cyxtera. He made great friends and colleagues who respected Joe's brilliant mind and ability to provide best in solutions for the clients. He is missed by his colleagues dearly.
Hobbies: Joe was a simple man and can appreciate and be passionate about the things that others take for granted. He was never materialistic. What fed Joe's soul were stock trading, books, music, movies, drawing and the latest, cryptocurrency investing. He had a phenomenal investment mind, doing complex investments no common financial advisor could reach. He self-taught and created substantial value out of his brilliant investment mind. He read 50-60 novels a year, he loved music so much that he wall-papered his home office with all the album covers he loved and enjoyed all types of movies. His latest passion before passing was learning and writing all about cryptocurrencies, the future of investments. He wrote numerous articles on various cryptos on his linkedin profile. At his passing, cryptos are beginning to soar again, a sign that Joe's spirit is now free to soar..
Family: Joe and Thuy married in 1995 and raised two wonderful children, Dylan (18) and Josephine (13) Casey. Though they may not have a permanent marriage, Joe and Thuy stayed close as family and co-parented, co-partnered and have a life-long friendship, respect and love. It was both their pride and joy when Joe's oldest son, Dylan, announced his acceptance to the top business school in world, UPenn, Wharton—a feat few others have done, just like his Dad. Dylan inherited dad's brilliant mind and self-driven personality. Josie inherited Dad's namesake, his creative mind and love of language. She excels in her classes in anything literary. Both children inherited Dad's quirky, dry sense of humor and love of music and movies. Joe departed this world knowing he left the best legacy possible – two wonderful children who will make the world a brighter place. Under his guidance and protection from above, they will soar. Joe's brothers, Jim and Jack are also in the local area and their time together was filled with love. Though Joe's immediate family circle was small, Joe acquired an extended family in those who truly knew him. Thuy's immediate and extended family became and continues to be Joe's family; Thuy's current husband, Phil, Thuy's parents- Oanh & Kieu, 4 sisters (Truc, Thu, Mai, and Peony) and brother-in-laws (Greg, Cameron , Mike) and 6 nieces & nephews, aunts & uncles, all loved him…dearly and deeply.
Joe's passing on was tragic and has his family is shocked and grief stricken. The disease that overcame him took such a wonderful man from us. He was a kind-hearted, gentle soul, generous, loyal, loving, quirky, witty and with a dry sense of humor. He was well loved and will be deeply, terribly missed.
We have all lost this brilliant, gentle soul.
