Obituary

Longtime Sterling, Virginia resident Juanita Gould passed away on Friday, May 6, at her home following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born April 26, 1929 in Sandy, Oregon to Robert and Vera Smith, she was raised in Sandy, near Mount Hood, and graduated from the University of Oregon, where she met her husband Gene Gould. With Gene, she raised her three children in Renton, Washington and then moved to Virginia in 1977.

Juanita has been active in volunteer and community service over the years, including serving on the Eastern Loudoun Regional Library Advisory Board, the Advisory Board for the Senior Center at Cascades Marketplace, and the Loudoun County Community Services Board. She served as Treasurer of the Friends of the Senior Center at Cascades Marketplace from 1993-2003. She also enjoyed belonging to a local book group and the League of Women Voters of Loudoun County.

Survivors include Gene, her devoted husband of 59 years, her children Paul Gould of Seattle, Glen Gould of Los Gatos, California, and Laura Ferguson of Kensington, Maryland, their spouses, Laura Kennedy Gould, Bunny Laden and Duncan Ferguson, respectively, and two grandchildren Claire and Helen Ferguson.

Friends will be received at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road, NE,
Leesburg, VA on Wednesday May 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at the Gresham Memorial Chapel at 257 Southeast Roberts Avenue in
Gresham, Oregon at 11:00 am on Monday, May 16.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Juanita's name to Capital Caring (formerly Capital Hospice), Philanthropy Department, 2900 Telestar Court, Falls Church, VA 22042.
