Obituary

Julia O'Brien passed away on September 9, 2009, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Julia, also known as Grandmere, was predeceased by her husband Eugene R. O'Brien and now joins him dancing away in Heaven.

Julia was raised in Flatbush Brooklyn, NY. She went to school at Erasmus High School and Pratt Institute where she studied to be a dietician. After she was married, she spent several years stationed in NV and lived in
NV, NJ, Toronto Canada, FL & VA. In her "off" time she was a world traveler and had the opportunity to visit Scandinavia, Panama, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Hawaii, Russia and Thailand.

Other hobbies included collecting spoons, "poxing" any opponent of Notre Dame, tap dancing with her troupe, watching and attending tennis matches, bridge games with her friends and handing out lollipops to her great- grandchildren. Her favorite weekend activity was visiting the neighborhood yard sales.

Julia spent her lifetime instilling strong family values in her children and those around her. She is survived by her sister, Florence; children, Susan, Gene, Judy, and Stephen; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jill, Kris, Brian, Chris, Kevin, Kelly, Lindsey, Jeff; and great-granchildren Kayla, Kalyn, Madison, Jack, Tyler, Alec, Camden, Kylie, Tyson and Danika.

Family and friends are invited to gather in her honor at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd NE, Leesburg, VA 20176 on September 11, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church located at 101 Oakcrest Manor Drive, NE, Leesburg, VA 20176. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
