June 15, 1928 – April 13, 2022
June A. Hutchison passed away from natural causes at the age of 93 on April 13, 2022, in
Leesburg, VA. She was the eldest child of Robert Hunter Abercrombie and Ethel Wistrand
Abercrombie of Irvington, NY. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas C.
Hutchison.
June was born on June 15, 1928 in Dobbs Ferry, NY. She graduated from Irvington High School
in 1946 and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons School of Nursing in
1949. June worked as an operating room nurse in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York
until her marriage to Thomas C. Hutchison in 1954. The newlyweds lived in Germany for a time
with the Air Force. Upon their return, they set up housekeeping in Huntington, NY, where they
spent the next 27 years.
June was always an active member of the church choir wherever the family was living; most
recently at Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church in Purcellville, VA, where she also served on the
Board of Trustees, the Building Committee and was a member of the Women's Circle. June
was an active founding member of the Loudoun Chorale. She worked as a school nurse in New
York, and after the family moved to Loudoun County, VA, in 1981, in the schools there. She
continued her life of service as an active member of Girl Scouts for over 70 years, having
responsibilities ranging from Troop Leader to various positions in Service Units, Associations
and Councils, both in New York and Virginia. June was instrumental in the founding of both Girl
Scout Camp Tag-a-Long in Lucketts, VA, and Camp Franklin Park in Purcellville, VA, where she
volunteered each summer. June was most passionate about her family and enjoyed her trips to
Penn State football games, hosting tailgates for family and friends.
June is survived by her four children; Peter A. (Debbie) Hutchison, Susan B. (Mark) Babunovic,
Thomas S. (Kathy) Hutchison, and Kim M. (Daniel) Smith, and by eleven grandchildren and two
great grandchildren, who were all her pride and joy.
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church at 2 o'clock on April 24,
2022. A private interment will take place at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, NY,
where June's family also rests.
