Obituary

Karen Harrison Young, age 55, of Ashburn, Virginia passed away on March 27, 2025. She was born on November 29, 1969 in Memphis Tennessee to her parents, William Edward Harrison and Carole (Fisher) Leisure.

Karen graduated from Old Dominion University with majors in Human Services Counseling and Nursing. These summed up the essence of what Karen was to so many. Someone that could console and someone that could heal. She used these skills in her personal life and in her career. She was the bond that kept her family together. She was the source of so much comfort in the world that she lived in.

Karen's favorite activity was spending time with her family. She enjoyed travelling; her favorite place was at the shore. The cool ocean breeze gave her comfort. Vacation always meant family vacation. The sounds of laughter made her smile. Our dream was to build a vacation home so the kids and grandkids could always have a place to come home to.

Karen met the love of her life, Kevin Young, in May 1997 shortly after Kevin finished his tour in the Navy. They spent the summer getting to know each other and that friendship quickly blossomed into a romance. They maintained their relationship, despite at times the physical distance, while Kevin finished his undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech. They married on May 13, 2000.

Karen and Kevin had 3 children. Morgan, who was one year old when Kevin and Karen met, quickly became Kevin's little angel. While Kevin was at Virginia Tech, he would always make the trip to see them whenever there was a big event that Morgan was involved in. During their wedding ceremony, Morgan at 4 years old took part in the ceremony with the promise from Kevin to love and to care for her for the rest of her life, just like his wife Karen. Soon after marriage, Dylan was born and two years later Cameron was born. They had the family they always wanted.

In February 2016, Karen and Kevin were once again blessed with another beautiful angel, the birth of their granddaughter, Arya to their daughter Morgan. Arya instantly became a part of this strong family bond.

Karen was preceded in death by her father, William Harrison; her step-father, Robert Leisure; and her brother, Eugene Harrison. Karen is survived by her husband, Kevin Young of Ashburn, VA; her daughter, Morgan Harrision (Ryan) of Charles Town, WV; her son, Dylan Young (Namrata) of Arlington, VA; her son, Cameron Young of Ashburn, VA; and her granddaughter, Arya Harrison of Charles Town, WV. Karen is also survived by her grandmother, Katherine Fisher of Nashville, TN; her mother, Carole Leisure of Nashville, TN; her sister, Kristi Armbruster of Fairborn, OH; her father and mother-in-law, David and Primilla Young of Leesburg, VA; and brother, Blake Harrison of Houma, LA.

Karen's commitment to healing people was her testament that she was a follower of Christ. She lived the life that many sing about  - the way we should all live, the way Christ wants us all to live. She was the epitome of someone that put people over principle. Her family prays that more people can be more like Karen.
