It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Karim Bibiana Sosa, a devoted follower of Jesus whose strength, kindness, and unwavering love made a lasting impact on all who knew her. Born in Bucaramanga, Colombia, on December 18, 1976, Karim moved to the United States in April 1991 at the age of 15, where she built a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and joy.

Karim's legacy lives on through her children, Andrea Sosa (Paul Behrends II) and Gabriella Sosa (Noe Garcia); her precious granddaughter, Camila Garcia; her parents, Luis and Maria Eugenia Porras; her siblings, Emerson Porras (Christina) and Julian Porras (Ellie Ann J. Berrio); her beloved nephew and niece, Dominic and Natalia Porras; her loving partner, Blair Hanuschak, and his daughters, Hannah and Alyssa. She is also survived by a large extended family, including many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as countless friends and co-workers who were touched by her radiant spirit.

Karim was the beloved matriarch of her family, a role she embraced with grace and love. She learned the values of strength, kindness, resilience, empathy, and respect from her parents, Luis and María Eugenia, and passed these qualities down to her daughters, Andrea and Gabriella. Karim's home was a sanctuary filled with love, comfort, and laughter, where she nurtured meaningful relationships and created cherished memories. Her unwavering strength and humility made her a constant source of guidance for her loved ones, always radiating wisdom and warmth. She shared a deep bond with her brothers, Emerson and Julian, who were a vital part of her life, and they, too, looked to her for support and inspiration. Karim was known for never complaining and always seeing the good in every situation, offering kindness without reserve. Hardworking, independent, loyal, and fiercely protective, she was a pillar of support for her family, her caring and playful spirit lighting up every room.

She lived life to the fullest, finding joy in the simplest moments—whether it was spending time with her family, exploring the outdoors, or enjoying her favorite activities like gardening, camping, and traveling. Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun was a special place for her, and she treasured singing karaoke, dancing, and relaxing while Blair grilled out. She also enjoyed music, especially Marc Anthony, and always had a steaming cup of black coffee by her side. Her beloved Pomeranian, Maya, who preceded her in passing, and Gemma, her grand-dog, held special places in her heart.

Professionally, Karim was an intellectual property specialist in the field of patent law, a career she committed herself to for over 20 years. She was a devoted worker who thrived alongside her best friend, Tammy Kassick, most recently at the law firm of Rossi, Kimms, & McDowell LLP. Karim's intelligence, diligence, and warmth made her an invaluable colleague and a beloved figure in the workplace.

The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Rangappa Rajendra, MD, Oncology and Hematology of Loudoun and Reston, for his compassionate care and dedication throughout Karim's illness. His team's expertise and kindness was a great comfort during a difficult time.

Karim's beautiful life was a testament to faith, love, and joy. Her hugs radiated warmth, and her legacy as the heart and soul of her family will forever remain a source of inspiration to all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd, Leesburg, VA, followed by a reception at Colonial to celebrate Karim's remarkable life. Karim wished for everyone to dress festively (not in black) and to share their memories in celebration of her.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Karim.
