IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen R.
Dragoo
June 13, 1949 – February 3, 2024
Kathleen R Dragoo (Kathi), 74 of Hamilton, Virginia, passed away suddenly Saturday February 3, 2024, at home. She was born to Thomas F. and Frances L. Raftery in Washington, D.C. on June 13, 1949.
Kathi was raised in Annadale, Virginia and graduated from Annandale High in 1967. After high school she went on to work at the Pentagon. During her early twenties, Kathi was an active member of the Catholic Young Adults Club, where she eventually crossed paths with her husband, Alan of 49 years. Kathi and Alan were married October 12, 1974, and lived in Maryland before relocating to Reston VA and then went on to spend the next 25 years in Herndon VA where they raised their three daughters. She enjoyed bowling and played in a league for over 30 years and contributed her time working at the polls on election days for many years. In 2008 she retired from the Fairfax County Police Department where she dedicated 25 years of service as a school crossing guard.
In 2008 Kathi and Alan decided they wanted a slower pace of life and retired and relocated to Hamilton VA. Even during retirement Kathi was still active member in the community. She was asked to join the Women's Club of Loudoun County where she would participate in meetings and volunteer for various events such as rummage and bake sales to help raise scholarship funds for local youth. Kathi had a lifelong love of books and would often be seen with a book or a kindle in her hands. She was an avid book reader who participated in a monthly book club. Kathi loved reading so much that she would read anywhere she could, even while waiting for a stoplight to turn green. Up until the time of her death, Kathi loved to travel with her husband on business trips. While he worked Kathi would meet up with friends and hang out and explore the city. Kathi met many lifelong and some of her best friends on those trips. Kathi enjoyed spending time on her back deck on a hot day. She would sit for hours basking in the sun while catching up with friends and family on the phone. She loved to chat and was always there to lend an ear.
She is survived by her husband, Alan; daughters Stephanie (Steve) Sawyer, Cyndi Dragoo, Jenni (Joshua) Hutt; 5 grandchildren, and sister Mary.
