Kathryn Nikkel passed away on April the 5 ^th 2023. She died with a smile, at home, in Martinsburg WV.

She was known for her passion and flair, and touched many lives across the United States and the world.  She was a musician, a dancer, a writer, a philosopher as well as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Kathryn was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. She was orphaned and adopted by extended family as WWII raged through Europe. She survived the Dachau camps and emigrated to the United States with her sister, cousins, aunt and uncle. She arrived in Kansas, and there met her husband and started her family.

She is survived by daughter Natalie, son Daniel, stepdaughter Lena, grandchildren Crystal, Bryan, Zach, Jennifer, Amelia, Cole, Jackson, Dylan, Charles, Jonathan, Joshua and great-grandchildren Daniela, Christian, Grace, Afton, Spring, Kai, Thad, Judah, Eli, and Abigail.

Kathryn was an example of triumph over adversity. She brought passion and joy to whatever she did.  She will be warmly remembered and sorely missed.

Family will receive friends on April 13, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd., NE., Leesburg, VA  20176 where a service will begin at 11:00 am.  Interment to follow at Union Cemetery, King Street, Leesburg.
