Obituary

Kathy Anne Boi (nee Ross) passed away peacefully on August 1, 2023 under the loving care of the wonderful team at the Adler Center for Caring in Aldie, VA.

Her husband of 45 years, Keith, held her in his arms and whispered his never-ending love for her as she slowly stopped breathing and began her next journey.  She was 67 years young and had lost her eight-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born in Pleasanton, CA on March 24, 1956, her family moved to Annandale, VA in 1965 after living in Livermore, CA, San Bruno, CA and Sierra Vista, AZ.  Kathy graduated from W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax, VA and attended Virginia Tech where she studied U.S. History.  Kathy's working career began at U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC serving as a civilian administrative specialist for the head of Civilian Personnel.  She met, married and followed her husband Keith to Juneau, AK in February of 1978 where she worked for the Regional Forester of the U.S. Forest Service.  Life then took her to Avon, CT. where she served on the administrative team for a Senior Vice President at Connecticut General Life Insurance and then on to the administrative staff for Dr. Frederic de Hoffmann, the President of the Salk Institute in San Diego, CA.

In 1982, Kathy returned to Washington, DC and joined the administrative team serving the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution.  She was a beloved team member serving for S. Dillon Ripley, Robert McCormick Adams, I. Michael Heyman, Lawrence M. Small and G. Wayne Clough.

She retired in March 2010 and soon thereafter returned to the Smithsonian as a volunteer in the Archives working on institutional Oral History projects.  Along the way, Kathy found time to co-found the 40th Anniversary Corvette Registry and serve as co-host for numerous gatherings at the National Corvette Museum and Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, KY and the annual Corvettes at Carlisle, PA.  She volunteered in the gift shop at the Virginia State Arboretum in Blandy, VA and served as the membership chair of the Blue Ridge Weavers and Spinners Guild in Purcellville, VA. The Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, VA lovingly placed Kathy's earthly remains in her final resting place at the Cool Spring Natural Cemetery on the grounds of the Holy Cross Abbey along the Shenandoah River in Clark County, VA.

Kathy is predeceased by her "Ross" dad and mom, William Allen and Laurel Mae, and her "Boi" dad Augustus Paul.  She is survived by her husband Keith and her siblings Karen and William in VA and Gail in FL as well as her "Boi" mom Anita Marie in Miami and Kathy's "Boi" sisters Eileen in SC, Donna in FL and Barbara in TX.  A remembrance for Kathy is being planned for late October. Donations to the Adler Center for Caring on 24419 Millstream Drive in Aldie, VA 20105 are welcomed and greatly appreciated.
