IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenneth Joseph
Sonnen
August 13, 1946 – February 10, 2020
Kenneth Sonnen of Sterling, Virginia passed away on February 10, 2020, at the age of 73.
Kenneth was born on August 13, 1946 in Jersey City, New Jersey to parents Joseph and Barbara. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 49 years, Norma Sonnen; his four children, daughters Jennifer (Michael) Ewing and Brenda (Brian) Powell, sons David and Stephen (Heather); sister Marilyn Csontos; and 6 (soon to be 7) grandchildren. He was blessed with many nieces and nephews.
In his younger days, Ken had been a Catholic altar boy and went on to study for priesthood for 2 1/2 years. He also served in the US Navy and after converting to Mormonism, he went on to be ordained as the youngest high priest in the State of New Jersey.
In his doctoral thesis, "The Jesus I Thought I Knew," Ken shares how the simple and compelling message of God's grace, love and salvation through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone changed his life and brought him out of false religion, to which he had previously been deeply committed. He was never the same, and spent his remaining life in service to promoting the good news of God's grace. He served in various ministries in various capacities in New York, New Jersey, Florida, Kentucky, Indiana, and Virginia in roles as school teacher, Sunday School teacher, college professor, pastor, assistant pastor, layman, deacon, and in any capacity needed. He earned a Bachelor of Biblical Studies from Heritage College in Orlando, Florida, a Master and Doctor of Divinity from Belle Meadows Baptist Bible College, and was named Pastor Emeritus of Tabernacle Baptist Church in King George, Virginia.
Kenneth will be remembered as a man of conviction dedicated to the cause of sharing Christ and The Gospel.
