Obituary

Krista Jo Detweiler, 56, of Leesburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, after a courageous yearlong battle with leukemia.

Krista was the beloved mother of Lindsey Edsall, Christian Edsall and his wife Sarah, and Alysa (Edsall) Ruminski and her husband Brent. She was also the proud and deeply loving “Grammy” to Greyson (8), Brooks (4), and Cora, who was born just one day before Krista’s passing on May 19, 2026.

Nothing brought Krista more joy than being a grandmother. In a true reflection of her devotion, she moved from Pennsylvania to Virginia to be closer to her grandchildren — helping with school pickups, bedtime routines, baby snuggles, and all the ordinary moments that became extraordinary because she was there. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and the love she poured into them will continue to shape them forever.

Krista spent most of her life working in the service industry. In 2018, Krista began working at Spruce Lake Retreat Center & Wilderness Camp. This job was especially meaningful because it deepened Krista’s faith and allowed Krista to serve God in a place that had been important to Krista’s family since childhood. Most recently, Krista worked at Lowe’s, where she was known for kindness, a strong work ethic, and an easy ability to connect with others.

Throughout her battle with leukemia, Krista faced every challenge with courage and determination, surrounded by the unwavering love of her family. She leaned on her children and her sister, Aleta, through the hardest moments of her journey. Even in her final days, her greatest concern remained the people she loved most.

Krista was preceded in death by her parents, Al and Kass Detweiler of Boyertown, Pennsylvania, by her brother, Phil Detweiler, and her brother-in-law, Glen Kulp.

She leaves behind her three children and three grandchildren; 10 brothers and sisters and their spouses; many beloved nieces and nephews; extended family members; and countless friends who will miss her deeply. While their hearts are broken, they find comfort in knowing her love lives on in the family she cherished so completely.

A visitation hour will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Leesburg Presbyterian Church (207 W Market St, Leesburg, VA 20176).

A memorial service celebrating Krista’s life will also be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at 242 Community Church (275 Mill St, Boyertown, PA 19512 ), formerly Boyertown Mennonite Church, with a luncheon to follow.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life and legacy of Krista.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Krista’s memory to Spruce Lake Retreat Center & Wilderness Camp, a place that was meaningful to her faith and family.
