Larry Elgin Edwards, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at the Capital Caring Adler Center in Aldie, Virginia. His passing went exactly the way he planned, just like the rest of his life.
Larry was predeceased by his parents Shelton Nelson and Grace Lee Edwards. Larry is survived by his wife Joanne Edwards, his sister Winnie Poehler, his 7 children Jeff (Erin) Edwards, Kevin (Karli) Edwards, Mitch (Ashley) Edwards, Troy (Dayana) Edwards, Samantha (Mark) Klear, Kristin (Jonathan) Tigeri, Katherine Libby, as well as his 14 grandchildren (with 2 on the way).
Larry was born December 4, 1947 in Washington D.C. Larry and his sister were raised in the city of Fairfax, Virginia. Larry graduated from Fairfax High School in 1967. After high school, Larry enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War.
When Larry returned home, he decided to go into business for himself and in 1972, when Larry was 25, he wanted to go into business for himself and came across an old trash truck. With the help from his Uncle Robert, he got a loan and began his first trash company - AAA Disposal Services. AAA later went on to become the largest privately owned waste hauler in Northern Virginia. In 1996, Larry decided to sell AAA in pursuit of a more relaxed lifestyle. But in typical Larry-fashion, that did not last long. In the early 2000s, and with his good friend Paul Coury, Larry started another trash company - American Disposal Services.
Larry was a father, husband, brother, uncle, grandaddy, friend, and generous employer and was loved by many. He will be sorely missed.
Due to COVID-19, we will only be having a graveside service. In order to allow for people to pay their respects we ask that everyone follow proper safety protocols to protect the well being of any at risk individuals.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Capital Caring Adler Center in Aldie, Virginia.
