IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry T.
Frazier
September 7, 1941 – April 16, 2017
"And in the end, it is not the years in your life that counts, but the life in your years." - Abraham Lincoln. Larry Thomas Frazier was born on September 7, 1941 in Fort Blackmore, VA to Cardon and Oneta Frazier, who preceded him in death. Larry married his sweetheart, Onalee Arnold in December 1966 and celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2016. Their lives were blessed with two sons Brent Thomas Frazier, Michael Ross Frazier and a daughter-in-law Margaret. Brent preceded his father in death in 2013. Larry was the third of four children -- his sister Millie Culpepper (Port Orange, FL); his brother L.C. Fraysier (Abingdon, VA); and his younger brother Rick Frazier (Atlanta, GA). Larry treasured a host of nieces and nephews, several great-nieces/nephews, an extended family, and many friends, colleagues, and students. He cherished being surrounded by those he loved as those moments often brought out Larry's sense of humor.
Larry achieved his dream of studying and learning through earning three degrees from Virginia Tech: a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, a Masters in Statistics, and a Doctorate in Statistics. After earning his Bachelor's degree Larry served two and half years of active military duty service in the U.S. Army. He later served in the Army Reserve and National Guard for a total of 28 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He returned to Virginia Tech to pursue his Ph.D. He then worked for multiple government agencies during a 23-year outstanding career. Larry later pursued his passion for teaching at multiple universities and colleges in the DC Metro Area until his retirement in 2013.
Larry's life exemplified a life well-lived, as two words come to mind: genuine and courageous. His humor, his demeanor, his essence was genuine and humble with transparency and always with a gentle and caring smile. Those close to Larry witnessed his courage daily as he silently coped with crippling arthritis while confronting challenging situations. From mentoring or tutoring his family members and students to hosting friends, Larry welcomed the opportunity to be with others, living up to his alma mater's motto, Ut Prosim : "That I may serve". Larry constantly strived to learn, teach, and mentor others in his chosen field of mathematics. Larry wasn't just an excellent scholar, he was a superb athlete. Larry played basketball, baseball, and track and field throughout high school. He lettered as a track and field athlete concentrating in pole vaulting at Virginia Tech.
Larry's faith in God was unwavering. He was a member of Sterling United Methodist Church and he lived his faith in his daily life. His favorite passages from the Bible were the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount and the 100th Psalm. A celebration of Larry's life will be held Saturday afternoon, April 22, 2017 at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA. Visitation starts at 2 PM with a memorial service at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
