Obituary

Lawrence Arthur Heinze, December 14, 1940 - June 24, 2017, of Leesburg, Virginia. Much loved husband of Sheila (Courtney) Heinze; loving father of James Jeffrey Heinze (Lynna ), Lauren (Jeff) Adams, Samantha and Alexandra; beloved grandfather of Jack, Luke, Alice and Lucy; brother of David (Gail) Heinze, also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces.

Never without a kind word, a smile or a song, Larry was respected by all who came to know him. His entrepreneurial spirit was born when beginning at age 14 he worked summers at a store in Ocean City. He was a true Baltimorean, attending the prestigious City College High School, graduating from the University of Maryland in 1964 where he was an active member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity and developed lifelong friendships. Larry proudly served his country as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, which took him from Colorado Springs to the Pentagon.

His outgoing and easy personality made him a natural in the business world, working in sales at Burroughs Corp, then Unisys and ultimately retiring from SM Consulting, Inc.

A man who loved a challenge and to fix whatever needed fixing, Larry also channeled his energy into real estate investment, primarily in the Baltimore's Charles Village neighborhood.

His love of people also made him a successful co-owner of the Midtown Yacht Club, a popular watering hole where Larry's gift for story-telling and connecting with patrons earned him the unofficial title of "Mayor".

Always active in his children's pursuits, Larry was the Towson Rec Council Baseball Commissioner for several years in the late 1970's. In addition to his devotion to his family, Larry was an avid golfer, loved boating, and was an excellent chef and baker.

But it was his complete love of life, his permanent state of happiness while never whispering a complaint that endeared him to all. Truly a man who could "Walk with Kings – nor lose the common touch"'.
