IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leon Alan
Conners
May 29, 1931 – January 9, 2020
Leon Alan "Lee" Conners, age 88, born May 29, 1931 in Bar Harbor, died Jan 9, 2020 in Loudoun County, VA. He passed bravely in faith into his eternal rest after a brief illness, surrounded by the comfort of his loving family.
Leon was known to those that knew him as Lee, Dad, Grandpa, Papa and Uncle Lee. He will be fondly remembered for his tall stature and gentle nature, big heart, and an easy smile and laugh to match his uniquely ironic sense of humor; but mostly for the love he shared for his family and friends. He made a fast friend wherever he went, and never forgot his family. The twinkle in his eye was his genuine thrill of interest in his people's lives. Corporal Leon Conners served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War with the Combat Engineers as a fireman. He followed in his father's & uncle's tracks after returning home, and was a career truck driver and Teamster in and around Boston. His greatest joys in his elder years were the days spent with grandkids, reuniting with family, and keeping up on distant relatives, sharing in their lives via Facebook, letters and birthday cards. He enjoyed watching sports, mostly his Red Sox, puzzles, crosswords, and recently Words with Friends on his iPad.
Lee is preceded in death by his parents, Reginald & Vivian (Workman) Conners, his brothers Carlton and Richard, baby sister Ellen, and wife Marie. The eldest of seven siblings, he is survived by his sister Carole (Falter) and brothers Ralph & Dennis Conners. He is also survived by his 8 children and their families; daughters Colleen, Gayle and Tracey and sons Russell, Jerry and Robert, and adopted step children Jean & James. He had 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and extended family whom he adored.
Funeral Masses will be held on Saturday January 18th at 1:00pm at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Ashburn, VA and
Saturday January 25th at 12:00pm at St. Mary's Parish in Plymouth, MA, with a Celebration of Life to follow at Tavern on the Wharf. Burial at Intervale Cemetery in Cherryfield, ME will occur in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider a donation to the Korean War Veterans Memorial the American Cancer Society or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, in his memory.
