Liwayway P. Mendoza, also known as Auntie Baby by her friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2023 at Heritage Hall in Leesburg, VA. She was born on July 11, 1936 in Manila, Philippines to Maximo Mendoza and Consolacion Pabilic Mendoza. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her two brothers, Osmundo Fontanares and Maximo Mendoza Jr.

She attended Normal College in Manila, Philippines where she received an Elementary Teacher Certificate. She worked for the Bureau of Posts in Manila for 30 years where she received awards such as "Outstanding Postal Worker of the Bureau of Posts" and "Outstanding Supervisor."

In 1989, she relocated to Washington, D.C. and became an American citizen. She worked as an assistant to the director of meetings for the National Council of Catholic Women in Washington, D.C. She lived with her sister, Maria Powell and her husband, Robert Powell. In 2010, she retired.

Liwayway was an extremely compassionate, patient, and generous woman who enjoyed spending time with family. After she retired, she spent her time babysitting her grand nieces and nephews. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching the food network, reading pop culture magazines, cooking Filipino food, going to church, and helping others in any way that she can.

Liwayway is survived by her sister, Maria Powell; her sister-in-law, Celia Fontanares; and her brother-in-law, Robert R. Powell. Liwayway was a well-loved aunt to Maria Imelda Stitzel, Anna Lisa Blakebrough, Nancy Faye Guinn, Brian Blakebrough, Chris Guinn; and to her great nieces and nephews Miranda Stitzel, Maria Blakebrough, Kristina Stitzel, Robert (Matthew) Stitzel, Justin Stitzel, Tyler Hancock, Brian (Buster) Blakebrough; and to her great great nephew Mason Thomas Stitzel.

She was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.
