Lois was born on July 24 th 1929 in New York to parents Iola Lake and Clarence Lake. She attended and graduated from New York City Public Schools and obtained her post-secondary education from a Secretarial school also located in New York City. She spent 42 years working at the New York Transit Authority. Although she loved her work, she was excited to finally retire in 1992.

Lois is remembered as a kind, easy-going woman who had 3 passions in life. She loved shopping! Lois was the queen of browsing through stores to find the best deals on anything she desired. Driving on the open road and travelling to different destinations was also a passion of Lois. She was most known for her bowling skills. Her bowling teams traveled to several different states to compete for many different championships. She loved to spend time with her bowling teams and hang out while playing the penny and nickel slots in various casinos.

Lois was blessed to be surrounded by people she loved and those who also loved her. She had two favorite guys in life, her son, Mel and her nephew JP. She called both of them Pops. She had a cat named TC, which was also one of the loves of her life. In addition to Mel, JP and TC, on several occasions, she spoke about how blessed she felt to have such caring and wonderful neighbors who looked out for each other.
