Obituary

Lois Janette Lear was born March 28, 1925, in Bemidji, MN, and was the youngest daughter of Mike and Lydia Sande. She moved to Alameda, CA, where she met and married William S. Walmsley of Walla Walla, WA. After the birth of their daughter, Dvora, Lois worked for the Bureau of Mines in Oakland, CA. She married Franklin W. Lear of Lansing, MI, in 1966. After receiving military orders, the family moved to San Diego, CA, which became their adopted home city. Lois moved to Pensacola, FL, in 1991 to live with her daughter's family following Frank's death in 1974 and the death of Lois' mother Lydia in 1985. Lois' hobbies over the years included bowling, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, knitting, and reading. She was a serious Bunco player who made sure you didn't roll your dice out of turn! After arthritis put a stop to many of her hobbies, she discovered various apps for her iPad and would spend time solving her virtual jigsaw puzzles and solitaire games. She loved watching tennis and Washington Nationals baseball and spending time with friends and family. Lois died peacefully at The Adler Center hospice. She is survived by her sister, Violet Johnson; her daughter, Dvora Sheremeta and son-in-law Greg; granddaughter Rachel Pepling and her husband Keith; and three great-grandchildren, Aaron, Nathan, and Zoe. A memorial open house for friends and family is planned for Sunday, August 25, from 2-5 PM at Greg and Dvora's home. Lois will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery, San Diego, CA, on December 30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lois' memory to The American Cancer Society or the Capital Caring Adler Center in Aldie, VA.
