Obituary

Lois Jedlicka Mueller of Leesburg, VA October 19, 2011. She was born in Sayville, Long Island New York on January 21, 1929. Her father, Arthur, was head of Jedlicka Brothers Plumbing. The shop and sales room was next to the Fire Station and Arthur was active with the volunteer fire department. Lois' mother, Louis Bartik, was from Bohemia, Long Island, a Czech community. The family had a beach house on Fire Island that was so well built it floated off to Long Island Sound during the hurricane of 1938, headed to Montauk Point. Lois' Aunt Rose was married to Walter Shirley, part of the NYC Mayor Impelltei Administration and developer of the Long Island community of Shirley in the 1940s. Her aunt and husband were active in the theatre and musical communities of NYC. On one occasion they accompanied Ed Sullivan on a trip to New Haven to review a new show. Lois was along and sat on his lap during the auto trip. Lois loved music, dancing, piano and studied at Mannes School of Music in Manhattan.

Married in 1947 at the historical "Church Around the Corner" in Manhattan, she and her first husband, Brooks Ryno also of Long Island, boarded a tramp steamer with limited space for a 6 day sail to Europe. They landed in Paris to study at the Sorbonne, part of the University of Paris.

Returning to the States, Brooks worked for several private enterprises before his employment with the US Government Department of Commerce. The family moved to Northern Virginia. Lois worked as a personal secretary to Pastor Frank Irwin of Little Falls Presbyterian Church in Arlington, VA. As secretary, she typed Pastor Irwin's letters to John Glenn who was a member of the congregation when he made his epic trip around the world.

In 1968 the family moved to Thailand where Brooks worked for the US Embassy as Trade Center Director. Lois became an Embassy wife and was active with the International Women's Group. During the family's stay in Thailand from 1968 to 1972, Lois was docent for the international tourist attraction, the Jim Thompson House. She escorted Governor Ronald Reagan and his wife on a tour of the house.

Lois' first marriage ended in 1972 and she and the children returned to Virginia. The family dog, Sally, returned with them. Lois and her son, Brooks, settled in Reston, VA. Lois was secretary for NUSAC (Nuclear Surveying and Auditing Company), at 7777 Leesburg Pike in Tysons Corner. Her future husband, Bob Mueller, pilot for then Alleghany Airlines now US Air, divorced and living in Vienna, was having Thanksgiving dinner with parents Olga and Otto and his 4 sons at the home of friends Doris and Bob Bender. Lois worked in the office next door to Doris and had also been invited to Thanksgiving dinner with her son. Lois and Bob discovered that they had birthdays one day apart (January 21 and January 22) and further celebration led to their wedding on August 18, 1973 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Vienna, VA. They settled in Reston.

Lois was a secretary at the National Association of Schools of Music and later worked in Real Estate with Wellborn in Reston. Bob retired in 1981 and was active in Lutheran Outdoor Ministries and Fellowship Foundation of Reston.

In 1993, Lois and Bob moved to Leesburg to be full-time grandparents of daughter Judith Babarsky's three active sons. Lois had an active life with music, singing in the church choir and the Reston Chorale and playing the piano.

Lois died 19 October, 2011 at home following six years of homecare for dementia and related causes.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Mueller of Leesburg, VA, her daughter and son-in-law Judith and Joe Babarsky of Philomont, VA, son and daughter-in-law Brooks and Lisa Ryno of Suffolk, VA, three grandsons, James Matthew Ward of Leesburg, VA, Christian Michael Ward of Titusville, FL and Adam Brooks Ward of Pilomont, VA, two step-granddaughters, Ryan Jarrett Babarsky of Charlottesville, VA and Kathleen Helen Babarsky of Herndon, VA, and four step-sons, Robert Mueller of Middleburg, VA, Richard Mueller of Clifton, VA, Craig Mueller of Middleburg, VA and Christopher Mueller of Middleburg, VA.

In her honor a funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011 starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 605 W. Market St., Leesburg, Virginia 20176. Pallbearers assisting in her service are John Schwarz, Brooks Ryno, Matthew Ward, Joe Babarsky, Robert Mueller, Jr., and Craig Mueller. Honorary pallbearers will be Christian Ward and Adam Ward. The Reverend Tom Prinz will be officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Leesburg, Virginia.
