Obituary

Lorie B. Terry passed away June 29, 2017, at her home in Ashburn, VA. She is survived by her husband, Donald, and four children: David Terry (Talia) of Ashburn, VA, Rachel Gwilliam (Burt) of Herndon, VA, Rebekah Stay (Benjamin) of Greensboro, NC, and Sarah Porter (Jayce) of Martinez, GA. She is also survived by her brother, Jeffrey Buchholz (Kerrie), of Murrieta, CA, her stepmother, Pat Buchholz, and 11 grandchildren. Her parents, Lawrence Buchholz and Marian Guillermety, and a brother, John Buchholz, preceded her in death.

Lorie was born in Detroit, MI, on July 30, 1950. She graduated from Villa Park High School in Villa Park, CA, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT.

Lorie married Donald M. Terry on February 18, 1978, in Manti, UT, and moved with him to the Washington, DC, area where he began a career with the U.S. Federal Government. Lorie, Donald, and their family lived in Brussels and Antwerp, Belgium; Bern, Switzerland; Port-au Prince, Haiti; Paris, France; and Leesburg, VA. The family moved to Ashburn, VA, in 2000. Lorie had a long career as an elementary school teacher, teaching in Antwerp, Port-au-Prince, and Paris, and retired from Loudoun County Public Schools in 2016. She was a popular and effective teacher who made a positive difference in the lives of hundreds of children.

Lorie joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in high school, served a mission for her church in Uruguay, did a great deal of volunteer work for her church over the years, and served as an ordinance worker in the Washington DC Temple during the final eight years of her life. She had a passion for Jane Austen novels, BYU football, and Virginia history.

The Terry family will receive friends between 9:00 am and 10:00 am on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 21015 Claiborne Parkway, Ashburn, Virginia 20148, where funeral services will immediately follow at 10:00 am. Interment will follow the service at Union Cemetery, Leesburg, Virginia.
