Loverna Jean Barber McCormick inspired her family and friends for 92 years with her love and easy laughter, which brought joy and inspiration to all who knew her. Our beloved mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend left this world to enter her long-awaited reality of meeting the one she knew, loved and emulated, her Lord Jesus.

Loverna was blessed with the rarest of gifts, the ability to see the goodness in all humanity, with a unique ability to make everyone she encountered feel special, loved and valued. She truly never met a stranger, as those who might be would become instant friends.

Loverna was born in Laporte, Indiana on October 20, 1929. She passed away peacefully on January 12,2022. She resided in Leesburg, Virginia where she lived with family members during the last several years of her life. She is survived by her six children, Karen Goodrich of Imlay City, Michigan, Kristin Kimmich (George) of Grand Blanc, Michigan, Mark McCormick (DeeAnn) of Flint, Michigan, Karla McCormick of Leesburg, Virginia, Heidi Jessurun (Tom) of Jos, Nigeria, and Jennifer McGovern (Jack) of Leesburg, Virginia. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Loverna's family moved from Laporte to Winona Lake, Indiana, a place of many treasured childhood memories. Her family moved to Ferndale, Michigan where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948. Loverna attended Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois where she enjoyed singing and performing in the renowned Greenville College a cappella choir. It was there she met and later married the love of her life, Rev. Everett McCormick, on June 9, 1950. Soon after, they embarked upon the journey of pastoral ministry serving churches in Illinois, Washington, Michigan, Virginia and Maryland for fifty-one years. They retired in Leesburg, Virginia. Her husband preceded Loverna in death on August 21, 2011.

Loverna relished her role as pastor's wife in each of the eleven churches they served. Although she served in many capacities including organist, Sunday school teacher and VBS leader, her most treasured role was that of "coffee cup counselor" where she offered words of comfort, spiritual direction and word of wisdom on marriage and family to any and all who sought the help she so unselfishly gave. She was a "prayer warrior" and took the words of Jesus literally when she used her closet as a place of private intercession. She read the Bible through many times, loved Streams in the Desert by Lettie Cowman and The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers among many other devotional books. Her Christian faith was unshakable and carried her through some difficult times. She was a devoted wife and mother, tirelessly attending to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of her family. Her grandchildren remember her as a fun-loving grandma who had an incredible ability to relate to each of their lives. She prayed daily for each of them by name.

Loverna's lighthearted humor, infectious laughter, gregarious personality, her 'always cheerful' countenance and her seemingly unlimited capacity to love in the spirit of the One in whom she had unwavering faith will be missed by all who knew her.
