Magdalene (Marlene) Murphy
Magdalene (Auster) Murphy, 89 died Friday evening December 19, 2014 at Heritage Hall, Leesburg, VA. Magdalene was born on June 24, 1925 in Oberlahnstein, Germany and resided with her daughter and son-in-law in Waterford, VA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Robert E. Murphy in 1993. She is survived by 2 daughters and son-in-laws, Shirley & Robert Bookwalter of Sterling, VA and Sharon & Dean Conley of Waterford, VA. She also had three grandchildren Anela & Mike Reilly, Steven & Tonya Bookwalter, and Gina & Monty Mudry. She enjoyed spending time with her seven great grandchildren, Brendan, Bryce, Shane & Kyle Reilly; and Alex, Shannon & Iris Mudry. Magdalene is also survived by several family members in Germany including a sister Josefine Meuer. Magdalene is also survived by a step son and daughter-in-law James & Roxanne Thompson of Knoxville, MD. and 5 step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren.
Magdalene (Marlene) led an amazing life. She went to school in Vienna and lived through WWII. She met her husband Bob while he was stationed with the US Occupational Forces. She came to this country as a war bride in 1949 and they raised two daughters. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading books and spending time with her friends and family.
A celebration of life service will be held at Community Lutheran Church, 21014 Whitfield Place, Sterling, VA on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. Rev. Joe Vought and Rev. Annabelle Markey will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Magdalene's life. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Community Lutheran Church Organ Fund.
Interment will follow on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester, PA. at 11a.m.
