Marcia Regina Dowell, 70, of Reston, VA passed away September 20, 2022 after a life-long journey with chronic illness. Marcia was born to the late Regina and Joseph Montagna on February 14, 1952 in Norfolk, VA and was the eldest of two children.

Marcia attended the University of Virginia where she earned a degree in education and met her husband and life partner, Glenn Dowell. Marcia went on to become a teacher for 35 years at Great Falls Elementary School where she formed long-lasting connections with her students, colleagues, and the community. Marcia and Glenn married on August 25, 1976 and became parents to two miracle children, Nicholas and Ashleigh, after experiencing the tragic loss of their first born daughter. Marcia would go on to say her children are who saved her life.

Marcia's long battle with chronic illness, something most would handle solemnly, she embraced feircely with wit, optimism, and strength. A matriarch, Marcia served and loved her family and community above all else. In her passing, she leaves behind a legacy of service and devotion to others, unconditional love, and shoes only she herself could ever fill. Marcia is survived by her husband Glenn, children Ashleigh and Nicholas Dowell, and brother Douglas Montagna.

There will be a celebration of life at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 1-3pm. A mass will be held the following day, Thursday, at St. John The Apostle church at 10:30am.
