Margaret (Peggy) Biniek, age 91, of Lansdowne Woods in Leesburg, Virginia passed away on October, 04, 2016 at Spring Arbor in Leesburg Virginia. Peggy was born on July 29, 1925 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Dr. Fred Krantz and Katherine Leahy Krantz. Peggy was a graduate of Murray High School. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Minnesota in Home Economics in 1949. While attending the University, she worked in the Universities Seed Laboratory. Peggy married Joseph P. Biniek on February 18, 1950 in Corpus Christi Church in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Peggy worked with the Girl Scouts for a number of years and was a Business Manager and Dietitian with the Girl Scout Camp in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Later she worked as an Analyst and test baker for International Mills in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was a teacher in the Community Day School in Arlington Virginia 1969-1973. During 1973 -1982, she grew flowers, herbs and produce and sold these at the Farmers Market in Old Town Alexandria. She was employed as a floral designer at a floral shop in Arlington, Virginia.
In 1985, they moved to Venice, Florida. Peggy joined the "Bitter Ends", the Venice Women's Sailing Squadron. She served as Treasurer for the Squadron during the years 1991-1992. Peggy joined a group entitled the "Friendly Sons and Daughters of St. Patrick" and served as the Historian for the group 1991-1997. Peggy's interest in Home Economics prompted her to publish the " Krantz Culinary Collection ", a compilation of the recipes of her mother, Katherine Leahy Krantz (1893- 1988)
Peggy, Joe and the family moved frequently. Their move to Leisure World was their 20th move. Both Peggy and Joe were active in genealogical research and were members of the Geological Society of Sarasota. They published: "Biniek Genealogy 1725 -1988", "The Leahy Family History", and "The Krantz Stemma". They had six children, Rev. Joseph Paul, Michael John, Margaret Christine (Meg), Stephen Frederick, Patrick Leahy, and Katherine Mary (Kathy) LaVallee. She was preceded in death by her daughter Meg. They have 5 grandchildren, Jean Biniek, Katherine Hardymon, Jeffrey LaVallee, Christine LaVallee, and Anna LaVallee.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, October 12 at 10:00am at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church., 46833 Harry Byrd Hwy, Sterling, Va. Reception will immediately follow at 11:00am in the Lansdowne Woods Blue Ridge Party room.
