IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret “Peggy”
Lowe
April 8, 1930 – November 30, 2019
Margaret Ann (Peggy) Lowe, passed away peacefully in her sleep, at home early Saturday morning, November 30, 2019.
She was born April 8, 1930 in Montpellier, VT.
She was raised in the Washington, D.C. suburbs and graduated from Falls Church High school in 1949, where she played softball in the position of pitcher, giving their team a great advantage, being a "South Paw."
She met her husband Kenny while attending weekly dances at the Vienna Fire Department with her best friend Ida (Harne) Feaster. Kenny and Peggy married on January 25, 1951 and began building their own home a few years later. They lived together in their home on Evergreen Mills road, in the little community of Arcola, VA., until Kenny passed away in February, 2000. Peggy continued to live at her home, all the way up until her death, where neighbors and regular passers-by would see her out tending her gardens or mowing her yard on her riding tractor.
They raised 4 children here, and nurtured their niece and nephew for a season as well. Peggy, being an only child, embraced her family by marriage, and was loved by many nieces, nephews and cousins as well. The family would travel to reunions in the Midwest every other year, building and maintaining strong family ties.
She was a member of the Arcola Elementary School PTA for over 15 years, holding various offices during that time.
Peggy's creative hand could often be seen at school programs, spaghetti dinners, spring fashion shows and more in the unique and beautiful sets and decorations she helped to design.
Peggy put her creative gift to work in other ways, sewing countless outfits and costumes for her family as well as dresses and uniforms for parades, ballet and tap dance, proms, graduations and weddings for many neighbors. She taught several children to sew, serving as the sewing leader in the local 4H club.
Peggy began driving school bus for the Loudoun County school district shortly after the birth of their youngest child—a position she held for 23 years. And for the next nearly 25 years people would often stop her in the grocery store and elsewhere and share how much it meant to be one of her passengers.
Peggy was loved and will be dearly missed by her 4 children and their spouses:
Laura (and Jim) Collins of Rapid City, SD.
Linda (and Rick) Brant of Martinsburg, WV
Ken Lowe of Fredericksburg, VA
And Lisa (and Dave) Giza, of Fernandina Beach, FL.
As well as 18 grand children and 14 great grand children.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Kenneth (Kenny) Lowe; her parents Chuck and Agnes Cline, her dear Aunt Josie (Josephine) Callahan, and countless brothers and sisters in law, cousins, nieces and nephews.
In her later years, Peggy's Christian faith, always some part of her life, blossomed and overflowed to many around her. She began reading through her Bible on a yearly schedule; and daily prayer and devotion became an integral part of nearly every day. She sewed generously into many ministries, locally, nationally and abroad, yet it was important to her to do all in unassuming fashion, unto her Lord.
We will celebrate her life with a visitation on Sunday, December 8, 2019, at Arcola United Methodist Church, 24757 Evergreen Mills Road, from 2 to 4 PM; followed by a pot luck meal. Funeral services will also be at the church, on Monday, December 9, at 10:30 AM, with the Rev. Chris Riedel officiating. interment will follow at Union Cemetery, 323 N. King Street, Leesburg, VA.
