Obituary

Margaret K. (Braun) Magruder, 78, went Home to her Savior Jesus Christ on September 20, 2015 in her home in Leesburg, VA.

Marge was born in the Bronx, NY, and grew up in NJ on the outskirts of NYC. She graduated from St. Cecelia's High School in Englewood, NJ.

She ventured south for college, and attended Georgetown University's School of Nursing, where she received her BS in 1959. She remained close friends with many of her college classmates from the class of '59. In her senior year at Georgetown, Marge joined the NROTC….she was their "nurse in Navy blue."

She served in the Navy as a nurse, and was stationed at Bethesda Naval Medical Center for most of her time of service. While in the Navy, she met and married her first husband, John Braun. They settled in Durham, NC, where Marge worked as a labor and delivery nurse – how she loved little babies! She had her own two babies while in Durham.

Marge, Kathy and Sara relocated to Bethesda, MD in 1968, when Marge began her career with the Montgomery County Health Department. In the early '70's she attended the Catholic University of America, and graduated with her Masters in Public Health Nursing in 1972.

She reprised her work with the county health department, where she first worked as a community health nurse, and then in the county's program to license day care centers, where she rose to be the Director of that program. Marge retired from the County in 1992, after 28 years of service.

She greatly enjoyed her retirement with her husband John H. "Duke" Magruder, Jr, and they relocated to a country setting in Middletown, MD. Not one to sit idly around, Marge and Duke volunteered Gathland State Park, where they were instrumental in forming a thriving volunteer organization and museum at the park.

Marge and Duke also enjoyed a great deal of traveling together, and took several epic cross country camping trips, camping for weeks at a time out of the back of a Ford pick-up, and enjoying the beauty of our country.

In fact, Marge enjoyed traveling so much that she visited each of the 50 states, with her final big trip to Alaska on a cruise ship with her dearest friend, Alverta Dronenburg.

In the last several years of her life Marge relocated to Loudoun Co, VA, and lived with Kathy for a short time, before settling in the retirement community of Leisure World in Leesburg.

Marge is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kathryn and John LoBuglio of Ashburn, VA, her daughter and son-in-law Sara and Doug Barton of Bluffton, SC, and the three loves of her life – her grandsons Nicholas LoBuglio and Patrick & Connor Sullivan.

Services are planned for Friday, October 2 at Church of the Holy Spirit, Leesburg, VA, where Marge was a member. Please click on this link for information and to respond if you are able to attend.

Marge's final place of rest will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery Co, MD. Interment will be later in October.

Our family is deeply grateful for all of your prayers, friendship and support for Marge and for us all.
