Margorie Lee Pierson Beales
November 6, 1933 – May 14, 2024
Margorie "Margie" Lee Pierson Beales (90) passed away peacefully in her Round Hill, VA home on May 14, 2024, under the care of her loving daughter, Joy, Blue Ridge Hospice and caregivers Minna and Fera. She was born November 6, 1933. Margie was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Alvin "Sonny" Beales, daughter Pamela Beales Wentworth, mother Margaret Ballenger, father Frank Pierson, brothers Claude and Gordon, sister Anna and cousins Ruth and Barbara.
Margie is survived by her daughter Joy Beales Smith, grandchildren Heather (Matt) of Berryville, VA and Matt (Alicia) of Ashburn, VA, great-grandchildren Harper and Mattox (Heather and Matt), Mikaela, August and Axel (Matt and Alicia) and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Margie's mother passed away when she was just 5 years old. Aunt Ella (Margaret's sister) stepped in and raised both Margie and Anna along with her own two daughters, Ruth and Barbara. All four girls were like sisters.
In 1953, Margie graduated from Lincoln High School in Loudoun County. She attended Harmony United Methodist Church in Hamilton and once played "Mary" in their Christmas production.
Margie met Sonny at Casey's diner in Leesburg, and they married in 1956. In their early years of marriage, they lived in Seven Corners and Falls Church. In 1963 they bought their home in Broad Run Farms in Sterling, VA. It was in Broad Run where Margie became an avid gardener of both vegetables and flowers. She was known amongst friends and family for her giant tomatoes and rose bushes. She loved canning the fruits of her labors as well, to enjoy year-round and share with friends and family. Margie was an avid bird watcher and could name the sights and sounds of any feathered friend that flew into her yard.
In their younger days, Margie and Sonny bowled in a league with other family members. She also loved playing BINGO with friends and family over the years. Margie was also a supremely talented quilter. She hand-sewed nearly a dozen quilts for her daughters and grandchildren. Each one included beautiful hand stitched embroidery.
Margie was happiest when with family. She hosted countless Sunday dinners, holiday dinners and cookouts. Thanksgiving dinners, potato salad and lemon lush were just a few of her favorite dishes to prepare. No one went hungry around her dining room table. Once the table was cleared, you could count on a game of UNO, Scrabble or Dominoes.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A celebration of her life will begin at 11:00 am at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA. Pallbearers will be Matt Smith, Matt Presgrave, Glenn Beales, Mark Beales, Brian Jenkins and Collin Mullins Saunders.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to Blue Ridge Hospice in Memory of Margorie Beales. Link to donate: https://brhospice.org/donate/
