Maria Arias
Welsh
June 24, 1944 – March 21, 2021
MARIA ARIAS WELSH, 76, beloved wife, mother and grandmother died on Sunday, March 21, 2021.
Born in Havana, Cuba, the daughter of Enrique R. Arias and Maria F. Arias, she moved to the United States with her family in 1960. Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, Francis G. Welsh (1942-2017), at a church dance. After marrying in 1967, Maria and Fran lived in Endicott, NY. They moved to Boynton Beach, FL in 1975 to raise their three children. Maria and Fran retired to Ashburn, VA to be closer to family.
While raising her children, Maria served as the Executive Secretary of The Rotary Club of West Palm Beach. She later became the first female member of the chapter. Her life was centered on family and faith. She was a natural caregiver, caring for her parents as they aged and her grandchildren as they grew. She was a fierce advocate for her children's dreams and endeavors, volunteering for countless field trips and school activities. She was known for her kindness and generosity and was a Good Samaritan for many in need.
She will forever be remembered by her children Cristina M. Perez (husband, Richard) of Purcellville, VA, Michael F. Welsh (wife Ann) of Boynton Beach, FL and Theresa E. Tamboer (husband Keith) of Bridgewater, NJ; her eight grandchildren Elizabeth, Ana Maria, Bernadette, Ricky, Emily, Madeline, Mikey and Carolina; and her many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A viewing is planned on Thursday, March 25th from 5-7 at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA. The funeral mass will be held on April 9th, 10 am at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Purcellville, VA. A memorial will be held later this year in Florida.
