Obituary

Marian Marguerite Goodale (Mim) departed this life on November 30, 2008. Marian was born in Ashland, Ohio to the late Peter and Helen Mumaw.

Following high school in Ashland, she completed a nursing degree and airline stewardess training in Kansas City. She became a part of the early TWA stewardess corps. Her involvement with TWA remained an engaging association throughout her life, via the TWA Clipped Wings organization.

In 1941, Marian Mumaw married Ward Goodale, and after the war, they settled in Detroit, where Ward became a General Motors executive. The happy couple became active in the Westminster Presbyterian Church music program and raised two sons, Gerald, who pursued a career as a musician in the U.S. Army, and David, who is a partner in a Los Angeles architectural firm.

In the 1970s, Marian and Ward retired to Delray Beach, Florida and joined the First Presbyterian Church Delray Beach and a local Golf Club. They lived in Delray, traveled the country in various RVs, and played golf together for 25 happy years. Their trips incorporated family, friends, fancy hotels, and rudimentary camping in this country and abroad. Mim lost Ward (while they were dressing for golf) in 1996, after 55 years of marriage.

In 2001, Marian moved to the newly opened Meadow Glen Assisted Living facility in Leesburg, Virginia, where she lived for six pleasant years.

When mini-stokes limited her mobility in 2007, Marian moved to Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Leesburg. Her own knowledge and nursing skills allowed Marian to appreciate the care provided by the staff at Meadow Glen and Heritage Hall.

Marian died quietly, in her sleep. She was at peace, satisfied with her life, and proud of her sons. She was a loving wife, a caring mother, and a devoted friend. We will miss her.

A service was held on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, Virginia. Marian was interred with Ward in Lake Worth Memory Gardens in Lake Worth, Florida.
