Obituary

Marie Doyle Fleming, long time resident of Leesburg, Virginia died peacefully at her home on January 1, 2009.

She was born September 29, 1915 in Brunswick County, Virginia to the late Elton Norborne Doyle, Sr. and Mary Sue Duane Doyle.

After completing Lawrenceville High School, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she graduated from Washington College of Law and passed the Bar in 1941, being one of the first women to do so in that era. Mrs. Fleming began her legal career that continued through her retirement with the late District Court Judge Joseph McGarraghy.

She was an avid golfer, reader, gardener and caregiver while enjoying active memberships in the Hamilton Book Club, the Ketoctin Chapter of the DAR, the Purcellville Garden Club, The Friendship Bridge Club and the Leesburg United Methodist Church where she served as a witness to His love with her gifts and talents.

Surviving her are step-son William W. Fleming, Jr. of Tionesta, Pennsylvania and brother Elton Norborne Doyle, Jr. of Lawrenceville, Virginia. Sharing her legacy are step-grand and great-grandchildren and endeared nieces and nephews of three generations.

Mrs. Fleming was predeceased by her husband William W. Fleming, Sr. and her sister Helen D. Nelson.

A memorial service will be conducted to celebrate her life at Leesburg UMC on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m.
