Marien Jane Smith, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2020 after a short battle with coronavirus. Born in 1932, Jane was raised in Elmira, New York and lived in San Francisco, California; Arlington, Virginia; and Frankford, Delaware before returning to live in Arlington and later, Leesburg, Virginia after the death of her husband, the late John "Jack" W. Smith. She had a profound love of watercolors and her cat, Bella. For many years, she painted extensively and sold her paintings at local art festivals, including two paintings purchased by a U.S. Representative to Congress.
A loving and caring mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother, Jane is survived by her daughters Pam Corwin and Amy Cahlik of Owego, New York and Elaine Borakove and her husband Brian Borakove of Leesburg, Virginia. She is also survived by four grandchildren—Logan and Addison Borakove, T.J. Corwin, Jeannie Halstead, and Evelyn and Laurie Cahlik—and three great grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, Virginia 20176 on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 11:00 AM. Internment will immediately follow the memorial service at Union Cemetery in Leesburg, Virginia.
