IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha S.
Mangano
September 19, 1928 – November 28, 2018
Martha Stamm Mangano
Born September 19, 1928, New York, NY. Died November 28, 2018, Ashburn, Va.
Martha was 90 years old at the time of her death; she peacefully passed of natural causes surrounded by family at the Inova Loudoun Hospital.
Martha was the only child of George and Martha Stamm and grew up in Long Beach, Long Island, NY. She was married to Vincent A. Mangano of Brooklyn, NY (himself an only child) on October 1 st , 1950. They moved to Northern Virginia shortly thereafter to put down roots and raise their family. She was a loving disciplinarian blessed with a sharp intellect and a passion for learning. After the passing of Vincent in 1987, she assumed the role of family matriarch, though in truth, she had always held that position. She was a member of the St. Anthony Church choir, where she annually was honored to solo "Silent Night" in German on Christmas. She took up golf at the age of 70 and was proficient enough to make a difficult game enjoyable. Always a fierce competitor when it came to card games and other games of skill, she determined to pursue the goal of duplicate bridge "Life Master" in her 80s. She participated in and traveled to numerous tournaments, piling up the required points and achieving her dream. Whether it was bridge, Scrabble, Rummikub, or any other game of intellectual competition, when playing Martha, one had better bring their "A Game".
Martha is survived by sons Phil (Leslie) Mangano, Vinny Mangano, George (Teena) Mangano, and daughters Lisa (Joe) Conway, and Laura (Brian) Dwinnell. Likewise, she is survived by fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
On behalf of Martha's entire family, we would like to extend our heart-felt gratitude to the staff at Spring Arbor Senior Living in Leesburg, VA where she resided for the past two years, enjoying all of the benefits of companionship and social events offered.
