Obituary

Mary T. FitzPatrick, a former teacher and school librarian who retired in 1976, and lived at Goodwin House in Alexandria since 2001, died peacefully on April 6.

Mrs. FitzPatrick was born August 20, 1918, in Albany, New York to the late John A. and Marie O'Donnell. She had lived in Albany, New York, for most of her life, also completing her education in that city, graduating from the State University of New York with a degree in education. She also completed graduate training at SUNY, Columbia University, the University of Denver and received her master's degree in education from Michigan State University.
Mrs. FitzPatrick married John J. FitzPatrick in 1943 and four children completed her family. They moved to Annandale in 1962 after residing in Battle Creek, Michigan, for eight years. She served as school librarian at Thomas Jefferson High School for 14 years, and for many years, she and her retired husband operated a business consulting service. They traveled extensively throughout the United States, occasionally to Canada, Mexico and the Carribean, with the highlight of their travels was a wonderful visit to Ireland. Her husband died in 1992 afer almost 50 years of marriage. Her son, Michael died in 2001; and her graddaughter, Jennifer, died in 2005.

Survivors include her three daughters, Patricia Bonadies of Aiken, South Carolina, Anne Ribler of Pompano Beach, Florida; and Kathleen Stotler of Warrenton, Virginia; her seven grandchildren, Daniel Smith, Colin Sumner, Faith Sumner, Christopher FitzPatrick; Andrew FitzPatrick, Tracy Rucker Wilson, nd Alison Rucker Larkin; as well as her eight great-grandchildren, Thomas and Johnathan FitzPatrick, Ian FitzPatrick, Kirk Johnson, Matthew and Eric Wilson, Danil Smith, and August Larkin; and her sister, Ruth Abele of Albany, New York.

A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, April 12, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel at Goodwin House, Alexandria, Virginia. Internment at a later date will be in Arlington National Cemetery beside the remains of her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to one of her favorite organizations, the Annandale Christian Community for Action (ACCA), 7200 Columbia Pike, Annandale, Virginia 22003.
